4 - ylan: buu chi

This ink drawing is a contemporary piece by the late Vietnamese surrealist painter Buu Chi.
I find the image interesting because while it is very simple, it is also very striking. I love the combination of the stylized human figure which exudes a lot of raw emotional power and the conventional, abused symbol used in everyday language for exclamation. I also love the graphic black and white color scheme and the balance created by the sun and the moon on both sides. Like with many of Picasso's drawings, I am intrigued by the ability of the artist to communicate with just a few strokes... this drawing probably took him only a few minutes but is still a great piece of art.
